Pear Brown Beurre is grown for its flavoursome, brown skinned fruit which ripen in summer. These are held amidst the fresh, green foliage which develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. This variety requires another variety planted nearby such as Williams Bon Chretien or Winter Nelis to aid pollination. It typically grows to 3.5 m tall and 3 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best yields are achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered, fertile site, with good soil moisture during dry periods. It is tolerant of cold climates and frost, though late frosts will reduce the yield. Pear Brown Beurre is often added to mixed plantings, grown as a specimen, or planted specifically for fruit production.
