Olea Pendolino is a variety of Olive tree grown for its high yields of small-sized fruit in autumn. The mature fruit are dark purple-black and are either squeezed to produce an oil with a distinct taste or eaten fresh. The fruit originate from masses of white-cream flowers borne in summer. It carries grey-green leaves held on stems that have a gentle arch. This evergreen typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of extended dry periods, moderate frost, and some wind but will produce a better formed tree if looked after while it is establishing. Olea Pendolino is one of the more popular Olive tree varieties and often grown commercially for fruit production. In the home garden it makes for an impressive specimen, and is useful for screening and wind protection, hedging and topiary, or for planting around outdoor living areas. For an olive tree hedge, space the plants 75 cm to 1 m apart.
