Nashi 'Reddy Robin'

How to grow Nashi 'Reddy Robin' in NZ

Grow Nashi 'Reddy Robin' in a sunny sheltered position, using fertile soil with good drainage. Choose a position with room for harvesting and a mature canopy. Plant at the original soil level and keep any graft above the soil. Water well and mulch without covering the trunk. Water consistently while establishing. Check the variety requirements for pollination before planting so flowering and fruit set are well supported. Check moisture regularly as the new roots settle into their surroundings.

Nashi 'Reddy Robin' care tips

Care for Nashi 'Reddy Robin' by matching moisture and feeding to its growing season. Water regularly during dry weather, particularly while fruit is developing. Feed with a suitable fruit tree fertiliser in spring and maintain mulch around the roots. Remove damaged growth and prune to support an accessible canopy. Check for pests and remove fallen fruit. Confirm pollination requirements and avoid removing productive fruiting wood unnecessarily. Regular checks help you respond promptly to changing conditions.

Nashi 'Reddy Robin' size, spacing, and growth rate

Nashi 'Reddy Robin' typically reaches about 4 m tall and 3 m wide under suitable conditions. Allow at least 3 m between untrimmed specimens so their mature canopies have room to develop. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Final size varies with climate, soil, container size, and maintenance. Allow for the expected spread when positioning plants beside paths, walls, or neighbouring specimens. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust nearby planting as its natural form becomes clearer.
