Plum Black Doris and Billington

How to grow Plum Black Doris and Billington in NZ

Grow Plum Black Doris and Billington in full sun in a suitable sheltered position, using fertile soil with good drainage. Allow space for harvesting and a mature canopy. Check pollination requirements before planting and position compatible varieties within reach of visiting pollinators.

Plum Black Doris and Billington care tips

Care for Plum Black Doris and Billington by matching moisture and feeding to its growing season. Water deeply during dry weather and feed with a suitable fruit tree fertiliser in spring. Thin heavy crops if necessary to support fruit size and reduce branch strain. Prune on a dry day in summer after harvest, rather than during wet winter weather. Remove damaged wood and fallen fruit, and keep mulch clear of the trunk.

Plum Black Doris and Billington size, spacing, and growth rate

Plum Black Doris and Billington typically reaches about 5 m tall and 4 m wide under suitable conditions. Allow at least 4 m between untrimmed specimens so their mature canopies have room to develop. It has a moderate growth rate under suitable conditions. Final size varies with climate, soil, container size, and maintenance. Allow for the expected spread when positioning plants beside paths, walls, or neighbouring specimens. Check the developing plant regularly and adjust nearby planting as its natural form becomes clearer.
