Apple Sturmer Details

Sturmer apples, also known as the Stumer Pippin apple, is one of the heritage apples that bears large sized fruit in autumn. The fruit are light green with an orange blush to one side and have flesh that is juicy and very tasty. The M9 rootstock keeps this deciduous tree to about 4 m tall and 3.5 m wide, though it can be trimmed as necessary. It is self-pollinating and so does not require another apple variety planted close by to produce fruit. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, though a late frost in spring can reduce yields. It is not suited to sub-tropical climates. Sturmer apples are commonly planted for fruit production, included in a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen.
