The Harold Red Delicious apple variety bears large sized fruit in autumn that are deep red and have flesh that is crisp, sweet, and very flavoursome. The M9 rootstock keeps this deciduous tree to about 3 m tall and 2.5 m wide, though it can be trimmed as necessary. It is self-pollinating and so does not require another apple variety planted close by to produce fruit. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, though a late frost in spring can reduce yields. Harold Red Delicious is commonly planted for fruit production, included in a mixed planting, or maintained in a courtyard garden.
