“Aspiring” is a popular variety of Raspberry that produces large, dark red, tasty berries from summer through autumn. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 1 m wide, but can be trimmed as necessary, remembering that the fruit is produced on one-year old canes. The leaves emerge in spring with a fresh green colour, age to dark green, then develop yellow tones in the autumn before falling. In spring, white flowers are borne throughout the foliage and these attract bees which pollinate the flowers. Best results are achieved when it is planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates but does require good moisture during dry periods. This variety is commonly used for fruit production, added to a mixed planting, or grown as an informal hedge.
