“Wonderful” is a variety of Pomegranate grown for its flowers and delicious fruit. Upright branches carry large and showy, orange-red blooms in summer which result in large, red fruit in autumn. The fruit are often used for making juice. The foliage on this deciduous shrub emerges bronze, ages to green, then develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. In warmer climates, however, it will generally remain evergreen. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this plant is achieved when grown on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. It is tolerant of frosts and cool climates. “Wonderful” is commonly included in mixed plantings, trimmed into a hedge, maintained in a container, or planted as a backdrop for smaller plants. It is a versatile plant with the added advantage of tasty fruit.
