“Ponderosa” is a variety of lemon that produces jumbo sized fruit (over half a kg in weight) from late spring through summer. The fruit are bright yellow, relatively easy to peel, and have a lovely lemon flavour. The glossy, dark green foliage provides a lovely backdrop to the small, white flowers in summer. This heavy cropping shrub typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide, but can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this variety is achieved when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, protected from frost. Citrus will generally tolerate moderate frosts once established. This heritage variety is commonly included in mixed plantings, maintained in a container, added to a courtyard garden, or grown as a specimen.
