“Taylors Gold” is a popular variety of pear due to its impressively flavoured fruit which ripen in autumn. The fruit have a golden skin with a finely textured flesh that is juicy and sweet. These are held amidst the fresh, green foliage which develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. This variety requires another variety planted nearby such as “Winter Nelis” to aid pollination and achieve good yields. It typically grows to 3 m tall and 2.5 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best yields are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, with good soil moisture during dry periods. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though a late frost in spring may reduce the yield. “Taylors Gold” is commonly grown for fruit production, included into a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen. NB: This variety is not recommended for tropical or subtropical climates.
