“Garden Belle” is a variety of Pear grown for its tasty fruit in late summer. The mildly russeted, green skinned fruit are sweet with a smooth texture. They are held amidst the fresh, green foliage which develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. NB: Another variety such as “William Bon Chretien” or “Conference” needs to be planted close by to aid pollination and achieve better yields. It typically grows to 3.5 m tall and 3 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered, fertile site, with good soil moisture during dry periods. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates; though late frosts will reduce yields. “Garden Belle” is commonly planted specifically for fruit production, added to a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen.
