“Blood Orange” is a thornless variety of Orange that yields extremely well. The fruit have a smooth skin and the flesh is flecked with red, hence the name. The 'red' colour of the flesh tends to become more intense in warmer climates. The fruit ripen in early spring and the flesh is both sweet and juicy. They are borne amidst the lush and glossy, dark green foliage. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate moderate frost as well as short periods of dry but should be protected while establishing. “Blood Orange” is well suited to the home garden and is commonly grown for fruit production, as an ornamental in a mixed planting, maintained in a container, or grown as an informal hedge.
