“Pendula” is a variety of the commonly known Mulberry Tree and is grown for both its fruit and ornamental value. This variety is often referred to as the Weeping Mulberry because of its weeping growth habit. It carries mid-green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. Flowers produced in spring result in red-black fruit in summer which are sweet, juicy, and attract birds. It typically grows to 5 m tall and the same wide and can be contained with trimming. Best performance with this tree is achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates though a late frost in spring will cause yield loss and can injure plants. “Pendula” is commonly grown as a specimen tree, planted around outdoor living areas, added to a mixed planting, or simply grown for fruit production.
