“Encore” is a variety of Mandarin that produces medium sized fruit that are sweet and juicy. The fruit are easy to peel and almost seedless. The fruit ripen in winter and will generally hold on the tree for several weeks before going off. The lush foliage is glossy and dark green and becomes adorned with white flowers in late summer. This selection is fast growing and typically reaches 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this variety is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, and protected from heavy frost. Citrus will generally tolerate moderate frost once established. “Encore” is commonly included in a mixed planting, maintained in a container, used in a courtyard garden, or grown as a specimen.
