“Golden Special” is one of the more popular grapefruit varieties due to its large and juicy fruit that are mostly seedless. The fruit ripen from winter through spring and are used as a breakfast fruit, for juicing, or made into marmalade. It grows densely with glossy, dark green foliage held on slender stems. This evergreen typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this variety is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, protected from heavy frost, though it will tolerate moderate frost once established. “Golden Special” is commonly grown for fruit production but also makes a lovely addition to a mixed planting and can be maintained in a large container.
