“Granny Smith” is a popular variety of apple that bears good sized fruit in autumn. The fruit are mid-green in colour with white flesh that is juicy and very tasty. The MM102 rootstock keeps this deciduous tree to about 5 m tall and 4 m wide, though it can be trimmed as necessary. It is self-pollinating and so does not require another apple variety planted close by to produce fruit. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, though a late frost in spring can reduce yields. It is not suited to sub-tropical climates. “Granny Smith” on this rootstock is commonly planted for fruit production, included in a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen.
