They are held amidst the strap-like, glossy green leaves. This herbaceous perennial typically grows to 40 cm tall and 50 cm wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Dianella nigra is a hardy plant that will tolerate moderate frost, reasonable shade, short periods of dry, and most soils, except at the extremes of wet and dry.
