Dianella latissima Plant

The Dianella latissima plant is grown for both its foliage and flowers. In spring it bears spikes carrying delicate, white flowers. These are held neatly above the olive green, strap-like leaves. The flowers are followed by small blue berries in summer. It typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide and has storage roots that enable it to survive a wide range of environmental conditions. It grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to frost, coastal environments, dry periods, and cold climates. The Dianella latissima plant is easy to grow and is ideal for adding to mixing plantings and borders, planting under existing trees and shrubs, using in cottage gardens, or maintaining in a container. Some of the best shows of this plant are when it is mass planted on a bank or the like.
