The Dianella intermedia plant is an herbaceous perennial grown for both its form and colourful berries. In summer it bears spikes carrying delicate, violet flowers which result in bright blue berries that are quite aesthetic. The foliage comprises mid-green, strap-like leaves as it grows to 50 cm tall and the same wide. It is tolerant of dry periods, moderate frost, cool climates, some wind, heavy soils, and coastal environments.
