Xeronema callistemon is commonly included in a mixed planting, maintained in a container, planted around the base of larger trees, included in borders, or used to line an entranceway.

Xeronema callistemon, commonly known as Poor Knights Lilies, is a stunning, NZ native plant. It is renowned for its impressive, red flowers which are borne on tall stems during spring. Flowering may take several years to occur but can be sped up if the plants are root bound. The Poor Knights Lily produces mid-green, flax-like leaves as it grows to 1 m tall and the same wide. This Lily needs very good drainage and does best in a full sun position, protected from frost. Xeronema callistemon is commonly included in a mixed planting, maintained in a container, planted around the base of larger trees, included in borders, or used to line an entranceway. A mass planting provides for an impressive display.
