Libertia cranwelliae, commonly known as the NZ Iris or Mikoikoi, is a NZ native grown for its beautiful, white flowers and attractive foliage. The delicate looking flowers through spring and summer result in attractive, green seed capsules which mature to orange. The foliage comprises erect and stiff, yellow-green leaves. It grows as a clump to about 50 cm tall and the same wide but will colonise a larger area with its spreading roots. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Mikoikoi are tolerant of coastal conditions, cool climates, and a wide range of soil conditions. This NZ Iris is commonly mass planted, added to a mixed planting, used in borders, planted around the base of larger trees, or included anywhere a hardy, yet attractive plant is required. Libertia cranwelliae also does well in a pot and is well suited to planting around outdoor living areas.
