Dianella caerulea ‘Breeze’ is grown for both its foliage and flowers. It features spikes carrying delicate, blue flowers in spring. These are held neatly above the dark green, strap-like leaves. The flowers are followed by small blue berries in summer. It will typically grow to 1 m tall and the same wide and has storage roots that enable it to survive a wide range of environmental conditions. It grows best, however, when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to moderate frost, coastal environments, dry periods, and cool climates. Dianella ‘Breeze’ is commonly mass planted in borders or as a groundcover, included in a mixed planting, or planted around outdoor living areas. This NZ Flax Lily is an easy plant to grow that is very rewarding and affords a spectacular display, particularly when it is mass planted.
