Microsorum pustulatum

Commonly known as Hounds Tongue, this NZ native fern features glossy, bright green fronds. The fronds vary in both shape and size and may reach 40 cm in length. This fern will grow on trees as well as on the ground. It typically grows to 40 cm tall and the same wide, though will colonise a larger area with time. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is grown in partial shade on a well-drained site that does not dry out. It is tolerant of light frost, coastal conditions, and heavy shade. The Hounds Tongue Fern is commonly included in woodland plantings or native plantings to provide biodiversity. It is also well suited to planting around larger trees and shrubs in a mixed planting.
