Blechnum montanum, commonly known as Mountain Kiokio, this NZ native fern is often found growing abundantly in cold and wet, alpine conditions. It features cascading fronds that typically reach 30 cm in length. Young fronds often have pink-red tones which age to light green, and darken further as they mature. Blechnum montanum is commonly used as a groundcover in shaded areas due to its ability to colonise an area reasonably quickly, or included in woodland gardens.
