Blechnum fraseri Details

Blechnum fraseri, commonly known as the Miniature Tree Fern, is an interesting, yet elegant fern. It grows slowly with a short, spindly trunk to about 1 m tall and hosts a crown of dark green fronds about 40 cm long. The fronds have serrations along the midrib making them feel prickly. This tree fern will spread via its roots to colonise an area which can be metres wide. It grows best in full shade or partial shade conditions on a sheltered site that does not dry out. It will tolerant cold environments though should be protected from frost. The Miniature Tree Fern is commonly included in native plantings, used in heavily shaded areas, or planted beneath larger trees.
