Athyrium otophorum is an attractive fern with great form. This selection grows compactly and produces arching, dark green fronds from a central clump. It typically grows to 50 cm tall and 40 cm wide, growing best in partial shade or full shade conditions on a well-drained site that does not dry out. Good moisture is essential for this fern and in colder conditions it may die back during winter to reshoot in spring. Athyrium otophorum is commonly included in border plantings, planted beneath larger trees and shrubs, added to mixed plantings, or grown in a container. It is a great fern for lining shaded walkways.
