Commonly known as the Hen and Chicken Fern, this NZ native fern features feathery, deep green fronds. The common name arises from the tiny plantlets which are borne along mature fronds and can develop into separate plants. This stunning plant grows to about 30 cm tall and the same wide, preferring a shady, sheltered, and frost-free position with a moist, rich soil. It is most frequently grown indoors as a potted plant but works equally well outdoors. When grown outdoors it makes a spectacular display when planted en masse beneath shrubs and trees. It is also commonly added to tropical gardens, planted around living area, or used in borders.
