Pinus radiata is a very large tree commonly grown for timber production. It produces long, dark green needles held off solid branches. This evergreen will eventually reach 30 m tall and 8 m wide, and developed an open crown and a long, clear trunk. Best growth is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of extended dry periods, cool climates, coastal environments, and frost. Pinus radiata is commonly planted to provide shelter, firewood, or timber, and is also great for protecting erodible land.
