Picea pungens 'Glauca', commonly known as the Colorado Blue Spruce, is a blue coloured conifer that grows with a broad and open, pyramidal shape. The blue-grey needles on this evergreen are held densely on near-horizontal branches and give the tree a tiered appearance. It is a slow-growing tree and will eventually reach 20 m tall and 8 m wide. Picea pungens 'Glauca' is commonly grown as a colourful specimen in parks, used in an avenue planting, or grown where space affords.

How to grow Picea pungens 'Glauca' (Colorado Blue Spruce) in NZ

Picea pungens ‘Glauca’ grows best in NZ’s cooler regions in full sun and well-drained soil. Water regularly until established, then during prolonged dry spells. Feed in spring to enhance its blue foliage. Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Minimal pruning is needed, making it an ideal long-lived feature tree for gardens, parks, and landscapes.
