“Blue Ice” is a large conifer grown for its colourful foliage. It features ice-blue, needle-like foliage which is held densely, and grows with a conical shape. It will eventually reach 20 m tall and 8 m wide but is a slow grower and typically achieves just 4 m tall and 2 m wide in 10 years. Best results with this tree are experienced when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site though it will tolerate wind, frost, cool climates, and coastal conditions. “Blue Ice” is commonly grown as a specimen in a park or large garden, planted for shelter or screening, or trimmed into a hedge.
