Cryptomeria Elegans is a large, evergreen tree reaching about 10 m tall and 5 m wide. This cultivar grows upright with a loose pyramidal shape and carries feathery, bright green foliage. As cooler weather sets in it develops strong purple colouring. The texture and colour of this tree is very distinct and attractive. It tolerates a wide range of conditions but does best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cold environments, exposed conditions including coastal, and dry periods. Cryptomeria Elegans is commonly used as a specimen tree, grown for shelter, or added into mixed plantings in a large garden.
