Growing Cedrus atlantica 'Aurea' in NZ

Cedrus atlantica 'Aurea', or Golden Atlas Cedar, thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and is well-suited to New Zealand’s temperate climate. Choose a spacious site with good airflow and protection from strong winds to support its upright, pyramidal growth. This tree prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil and is drought-tolerant once established. Water regularly during dry spells while young, and apply mulch to retain moisture. Minimal pruning is needed—only remove dead or crossing branches in winter. Its golden-yellow new growth adds striking year-round colour to extensive gardens, parks, and feature plantings.
