Commonly known as the Brazilian Pine, this is a large, evergreen tree. It has thick, tough, scale like, dark green leaves with sharp edges, held on near horizontal branches. The crown is distinctively open and flat topped as it reaches 25 m tall and 12 m wide. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, dry periods, wind, and coastal environments. The Brazilian Pine is commonly grown as an interesting specimen in a large garden or park.
