Vitis purpurea

Vitis purpurea is an ornamental grapevine that does produce small grapes but the main feature is the foliage. This deciduous vine carries large, mid-green leaves and as autumn progresses the leaves develop impressive shades of purple. It requires a trellis or fence for support and if left untrimmed, it will grow to about 5 m tall. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site and it is tolerant of frost and cold environments. Vitis purpurea is commonly trained on a support structure as an attractive feature or grown to attract birds.
