Phaseolus caracalla (Snail Vine)

How to grow Phaseolus caracalla (Snail Vine) in NZ

Phaseolus caracalla (Snail Vine) grows best in a warm sunny sheltered position with fertile well drained soil. Improve the soil with compost before planting and water regularly while the vine establishes. Provide a strong support for the stems to climb and apply a quality fertiliser during spring and summer to encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering.

Phaseolus caracalla (Snail Vine) care tips

Phaseolus caracalla (Snail Vine) is easy to care for once established. Water during extended dry periods and apply mulch around the base to help retain soil moisture while keeping it clear of the stems. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain shape and encourages fresh growth. Protect young plants from heavy frost in colder parts of New Zealand.

Phaseolus caracalla (Snail Vine) size, spacing, and growth rate

Phaseolus caracalla (Snail Vine) is a fast growing climber that typically reaches 4 to 6 metres tall with suitable support. It develops quickly during warm weather and creates dense leafy coverage. Space plants about 2 to 3 metres apart when growing multiple vines so each plant has room to mature and flower freely.
