Commonly known as Grape Ivy, this is a deciduous vine grown for its attractive and colourful foliage. The ivy-like foliage is mid green and develops bright red and purple tones in autumn before falling. Small, green flowers are borne amidst the foliage in spring and result in dark blue berries in summer which attract birds. It can extend upwards of 20 to 30 m and climbs surfaces using small forked tendrils tipped with small strongly adhesive pads. Best results with this vine are achieved when it is planted on a well-drained site in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and periods of dry. This vigorous climber is great for covering walls and buildings. It is frequently seen growing on telephone poles, in trees, or on other support structures.
