Parthenocissus henryana, commonly known as the Chinese Virginia Creeper, is a deciduous vine grown for its attractive foliage. It has Ivy like leaves borne on stems that can reach upwards of 10 m in length, but can be trimmed as necessary. It climbs smooth surfaces using small forked tendrils tipped with small strongly adhesive pads. The foliage emerges purple, ages to dark green with silver-white veins, and then turns varying shades of red and orange in autumn before falling. Small, green flowers in spring result in small, purple-black berries in summer. Best results with this plant are achieved when planted on a well-drained site in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and periods of dry. Parthenocissus henryana is great for covering walls and buildings, or other support structures. It is frequently seen growing on telephone poles or growing up trees. It is also well suited to being used as a groundcover on a bank or the like.
