Pandorea jasminoides (Bower Vine)

How to grow Pandorea jasminoides in NZ

Plant in full sun to partial shade in fertile, free-draining soil. Provide sturdy support for climbing, such as a trellis, pergola, or fence. Water regularly during the first year to help establish roots, then only in extended dry periods. Mulch around the base to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage vigorous regrowth.

Pandorea jasminoides care tips

Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring and midsummer to promote lush foliage and abundant blooms. Remove any dead or damaged stems to keep the plant tidy. Monitor for aphids or caterpillars on fresh shoots and treat if necessary. Light trimming through the growing season can help control spread and maintain density.

Pandorea jasminoides size, spacing, and growth rate

Bower Vine typically grows 4–6 m high and 1–2 m wide with a fast growth rate. Space plants 1–1.5 m apart for dense coverage.
