How to care for Muehlenbeckia australis

Caring for Muehlenbeckia australis is generally relatively straightforward, as it is a very hardy plant. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers a well-drained soil. It can, however, tolerate a range of soil types, including sandy and clay soils, provided they drain well. It also tolerates frost as well as coastal and alpine environments. Regular watering is essential, especially during the first year, to establish a strong root system. After that, the plants are largely drought-tolerant. Pruning is primarily used for shaping, and it can be done at any time of the year. Mulching around the base of the plant can help retain moisture and suppress weeds while it establishes. It will benefit from native plant fertiliser in spring and is generally resistant to pests and diseases.
