Hedera canariensis Variegata Details

Hedera canariensis Variegated is an Ivy grown for its variegated foliage and rapid growth rate. This evergreen perennial climbs walls, trees, etc and may reach upwards of 30 m if left untrimmed. It climbs using aerial roots which cling to the surface and if it doesnt have something to climb it will creep along the ground as a groundcover. The leaves are broad and glossy, leathery, and are variegated cream and dark green. Green flowers in summer result in black berries in autumn which provide additional interest. Best results with this Ivy are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry periods, frost, and coastal environments. This Ivy is commonly used to cover large walls or fences, trained over arches or pillars, used as a groundcover, or maintained in a container where it is allowed to trail over the sides. The foliage is commonly used in floral arrangements.
