This deciduous vine features mauve-pink flowers which fade to a blush pink from spring through early summer. The flowers permeate the air with a sweet vanilla fragrance. The foliage emerges bronze coloured in spring, quickly ages to green, then develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. Left untrimmed it will easily grow to 12 m tall but is easily contained with trimming and can be cut back severely each winter without doing the plant any harm.
