How to grow Bougainvillea 'Tropical Rainbow' in NZ

Plant Bougainvillea 'Tropical Rainbow' in a sunny, well-drained location where it receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. It thrives in warm, frost-free regions but can also be grown in containers and moved to sheltered spots in cooler areas. Once established, it is drought-tolerant but flowers best with occasional deep watering during long dry spells.

Bougainvillea 'Tropical Rainbow' care tips

Fertilise during the flowering season with a high-potassium fertiliser to promote abundant blooms. Prune after flowering to maintain its shape, control size, and encourage fresh growth. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers, as they encourage leafy growth over flowers.

Bougainvillea 'Tropical Rainbow' size, spacing, and growth rate

Bougainvillea 'Tropical Rainbow' can grow 3–5 m tall and 2–3 m wide when supported. Space plants 2–3 m apart in the ground for best coverage. It is a vigorous grower in warm climates and can quickly cover fences, pergolas, or trellises.
