The Purple Patch Bougainvillea is grown for its spectacular and colourful flowers and foliage. Through spring and summer, it bears masses of purple flowers which blend neatly with the variegated foliage. This evergreen typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide without a support structure but much larger when it has something to climb. Without support it will grow more like a groundcover. It grows best when planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in either full sun or partial shade. It will tolerate a very light frost once established. The Purple Patch Bougainvillea is commonly used as a small climber, added to mixed plantings, kept as a groundcover, or planted anywhere the beauty of this plant can be enjoyed.
