How to grow Lime ‘Sublime’ in NZ

Plant in a sunny, sheltered position with free-draining soil. Limes thrive in warm conditions and benefit from protection from frost, especially when young. Water regularly while establishing and during dry periods. Mulch around the base to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Feed with a citrus fertiliser in spring and summer to promote strong growth and heavy fruiting.

Lime ‘Sublime’ care tips

Prune lightly after fruiting to maintain shape and encourage healthy new growth. Keep the area around the base weed-free and apply mulch annually. Watch for common citrus pests such as aphids or scale and treat promptly if needed. In cooler regions, consider growing in a pot so it can be moved to a warmer spot over winter.

Lime ‘Sublime’ size, spacing, and growth rate

A small to medium-sized citrus tree reaching around 2–3 m tall and wide. Space trees 3 m apart in open ground to allow adequate sunlight and airflow. In pots, choose a container at least 45 cm in diameter.

Landscaping uses for Lime ‘Sublime’

Excellent as a productive feature tree in edible gardens, courtyards, or patios. Works well in pots for smaller spaces and can be combined with other citrus for extended harvest options. Also suits mixed planting in sunny, sheltered borders.
