How to grow ‘Rangpur’ Lime in NZ

Plant in a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, free-draining soil. Limes prefer warm conditions, so protect from frost, especially in cooler regions. Water regularly during dry spells and while establishing. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Apply citrus fertiliser in spring and summer to encourage healthy growth and abundant fruiting.

Prune lightly after fruiting to maintain shape and promote airflow. Keep the base free from competing weeds and reapply mulch each year. Watch for common citrus pests such as scale and aphids, treating promptly if required. In cold-prone areas, container growing allows for easy relocation to a warmer spot in winter.

A small to medium-sized citrus tree, typically reaching 2–3 m tall and wide. Space trees at least 3 m apart in open ground. When grown in pots, use a container at least 45 cm wide and repot every few years.
