How to grow Mandarin ‘Miho’ in NZ

Plant in full sun in fertile, free-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Choose a warm, sheltered position, ideally protected from strong winds and frost. Water regularly during the growing season, especially while fruit is forming, and mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. In colder areas, plant in a large container and move to a warmer location in winter.

Mandarin ‘Miho’ care tips

Feed with a citrus-specific fertiliser in early spring and late summer to promote strong growth and heavy cropping. Lightly prune after harvest to maintain shape and encourage airflow. Monitor for pests like aphids or scale and treat as needed. Protect young fruit from frost with frost cloth in cooler climates.

Mandarin ‘Miho’ size, spacing, and growth rate

Reaches 2–3 m tall and wide with a moderate growth rate. Space trees around 3 m apart in the garden or plant in a large pot for smaller areas.
