Lime Kaffir Details

The Kaffir Lime is a quick growing and compact shrub that produces unusual looking fruit. The fruit are green, warty, and inedible due to the thick rind, lack of juice, and bitter taste. That said, the leaves are often used in Asian cooking. The fruit will mature to yellow but are generally harvested green during winter. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this variety is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, protected from heavy frost, though it will generally tolerate moderate frost once established. The Kaffir Lime is commonly included in a mixed planting or maintained either in a container or in a courtyard garden.
