“Purple Splendour” is a variety of the commonly known, Iceplant, and is an herbaceous perennial grown for its spreading nature and pretty flowers. It bears masses of showy, purple flowers through spring and summer. These are held just above the succulent-like, green-purple foliage. It typically grows to 10 cm tall and 60 cm wide, but will colonise a larger area with time. This plant prefers to grow in full sun on a well-drained site, and is tolerant of coastal conditions, moving sand, extended dry periods, wind, and moderate frost. “Purple Splendour” is commonly used in coastal and rock gardens, included in borders, planted to spill out onto a path or over a retaining wall, maintained in a container, or used around outdoor living areas such as pools. This hardy plant also makes for a fantastic potted plant in an office or the like.
