Commonly known as the Golden Barrel Cactus, this is an eye-catching and award-winning cactus. It grows with a barrel shape, and is mid-green with golden ribs and spines. The plant becomes covered with masses of small, yellow flowers that form a ring around the top of the plant during late spring and summer. It typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide, and grows best on a very well-drained soil (or growing media) in full sun. It can tolerate light frost once established, and extended dry periods. Golden Barrel Cactus are commonly grown as a large potted plant at entrances, included in rock gardens, or used to provide texture and colour to a space. They are perfect for garden areas that receive little moisture and make a fantastic statement.
