Crassula ovata, commonly known as the Money Plant or Money Tree, is a succulent that grows as an attractive small shrub. It carries fleshy, green leaves with a red edge, and may develop yellow tones when grown in full sun and during cooler periods. Mildly fragrant, white flowers are borne during summer and sometimes during winter which give this plant a real elegance. This South African native will typically grow to 1 m tall and the same wide, and grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is largely drought tolerant and does not like being over-watered. Crassula ovata is often used as a houseplant but can equally be grown outdoors provided it is protected from frost. It is well suited to rock gardens, Mediterranean themed gardens, pool areas, or planting to border an entrance.
